Making components for steelworks requires competence, but also flexibility. For a customer’s fume cooling system VEXA executed the construction works of an elbow with an inclination of 180 degrees. It had a diameter of 1.5m, a length of 5m and a height of 2.3m. We built it ex novo, following the specific requirements notified by the purchaser.

Our Technical Department based the work on the project given us by the customer. VEXA studied the documents and undertook the development of all the drawings that were deemed as necessary for the construction phase, like the sheets, cut and also the calendering lists. Following the drawings, we then proceeded with the actual making at our workshop. The first step was the construction of the calendered metal sheets, with a width of 6mm and a P275NH quality. The metal sheet pieces were then combined in different sectors, creating the necessary sections to compose the cooling elbow.

For what instead concerns the cooling circuit, it is made of half tubes (90mm diameter, 6mm width), which we machined from a press-bent, flat metal sheet. To join the components, we went ahead with a full-penetration, watertight weld. The design of the cooling elbow also included a water-cooled inspection door and the addition of the two (in and out) collectors to the circuit. Our qualified workers then completed the operations accomplishing a hydrostatic testing (20 bars for 6 hours) and the anti-heat painting.
